Vid återkomsten till Sverige framträdde han som en ivrig förkämpe för nationellt svenska värden och blev en framstående skildrare av det inhemska landskapet främst i Uppland och Södermanland, men sökte också motiv i andra delar av landet.
Representerad på Nationalmuseum i Stockholm, på andra svenska museer samt i Köpenhamn och Philadelphia.
