År 1908 öppnade NK en filial i S:t Petersburg och för att tillgodose den stora efterfrågan öppnades 1913 även en i Moskva. Här fick David Holmertz uppdraget att ta hand om ritkontoret, och då också ansvar att tillfredställa den ryska marknadens smak för festlig pompa i inredningen.
